Artist's Comments

Here's looking at you doll.

It's just a Mene thing to do. She looks so cute. And I really like the way I drew her one leg. I think I accomplished it well. As well, can you tell my shading is improving?

This is redrawn, not the same one from the poster.

ahh, yes, the shading is starting to improve, but pay close attention to where the light is coming from. For example, on her left leg, the shading around the skirt gives one the impression that the light source is coming from the right whereas the shading everywhere else gives the impression that the light source is coming from the left. Shading is probably one of the hardest f*ing parts of drawing. Haha, I can just hear my professor drilling into our heads "pay attention to the pattern of light and dark...dissect your painting...this is a technical exercise.." lol. omg..I have a middle aged man as the voice in my head, I don't know whether or not I should be disturbed by that. But yeah, when you're using a reference for a picture, don't just use it for the line drawing - use it for the shading too; because a lot of the shapes will be similar, even if the subject is wearing different clothes. Another thing that might help is to do a whole bunch of quick sketches from reference pictures, but focus on shapes/proportions and where the light and dark areas are. you don't have to do extensive shading - even just a line to represent where the dark areas are - and the more you do it, the more naturally it'll come to you ^_^

Other than that, it's looking good :) The foot is really well done - it obviously turns away without looking deformed, and that is really hard to do. The shapes are fairly well designed, both internal and external.

Looking forward to seeing more! ^_^

Yay! I've got more to pose, I just need the time to work on more. And I have a few original art ideas. The problem with my shading is that I sometimes change the light source from the reference image. And the one I referenced from, well, very bright light.

On my other account, be on the lookout for some scantily clad women. Harder to find nice references of men though without scouring porn sights.

harder to find nice references of men?! don't you have your own personal model who - i'm sure - would be more than happy to become "scantily clad"? haha
